Services Restored!

November 30, 2009 by kucb

Thanks, everyone, for your patience during our station outage.  With the assistance of a broadcast engineer who helped us troubleshoot over the telephone, we got all signals up and running this morning.

KSKA is also back on the air, thanks to their engineering staff fixing an unrelated problem at the KSKA studio.

 Have a great week!

Station Outages

November 29, 2009 by kucb

Unalaska Radio Listeners,

Following this morning’s power outages, KUCB Radio lost connectivity between the radio station and our Haystack Hill transmitter facility. That means our signal is not making it to the transmitter and we’re off the air. KUCB Staff has spent today troubleshooting the radio outages, and will commence work in the morning, with the assistance of a contract engineer. We expect to have things up and running again by end of day Monday.

Additionally, we are aware that KSKA has been off the air since Friday, November 27th. We spoke with KSKA engineers as soon as the outage occurred and they confirmed that KSKA has an equipment problem in Anchorage. The uplink that sends programming to repeater stations around the state is not functioning. They expect to have the problem fixed in the next few days.

It would probably be a good idea to set your clock radios to the ALARM feature, since tomorrow you will likely wake up to dead air!

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,

KUCB Staff

Local Teens get Creative with the Alaska Teen Media Institute

November 20, 2009 by kucb

The Alaska Teen Media Institute’s Director Rosey Robards visited Unalaska from November 18 to 20.  Her trip was a collaboration between Unalaska Community Broadcasting and the Unalaska City School District in an effort to build a strong teen media program.  Rosey and UCB staff  had a great time working with students in 9th grade English, 12th grade English, the Alternative School and the English as a Second Language classroom, as well as holding an open training for 9th to 12th graders on Thursday night.  Students enjoyed learning interviewing skills, voicing, editing skills and use of an audio recorder.  This training builds on UCB’s current activities with youth, which include a Teen Broadcasting class and work with the ESL class on a monthly radio program called ”Outdoors Unalaska.”  We are excited about new possibilities on the horizon as our teens develop their skills and increase their involvement with local radio and TV.

Community Advisory Board Members Share Their Ideas

November 17, 2009 by kucb

The Community Advisory Boards for Channel 8 TV and KUCB 89.7 FM gathered at Unalaska Community Broadcasting on November 10, 2009.  Thanks to these busy individuals for taking the time to meet with our Board Chair Bryan Stafford, General Manager Lauren Adams, and Development Director Jane Bye  to provide feedback and suggestions for consideration by our Board of Directors.  We were excited to have nine individuals on the Radio CAB and five individuals on the TV CAB, with a few others providing us with written feedback even though they could not be with us in person.   The conversation was lively, the opinions were varied, and we appreciate the excellent input from all. The Community Advisory Board acts as the voice of our community, helps us evaluate our services, and assists us in planning for the future.   The  next meeting will be held in the late spring.  If you are interested in participating, please give us a call at 581-1888 or email jane@kucb.org.
